Mow when the grass needs it. If you wait to mow until the grass is too tall then thatch and clumping can occur, which will suffocate the lawn. Using a mulching mower will chop the clippings into fine pieces and return them to the grass where they will provide nutrients for the lawn.

Make sure your blade is sharp. So many times people have issues with their grass and it’s because the blade is dull and the tops of the grass have been hacked off in- stead of cleanly removed. Leaving a frayed top to the grass encourages browing as well as disease has an entry point to set up.

Water. A newly seeded or high quality lawn will need watering when Mother Nature fails to assist. However, only water in the early morning or evening, not when the sun is at its peak. This causes evaporation and can burn the grass. The best method of watering is the soak method.

Feeding. The honest truth on feeding is it depends on the quality of the soil your grass is planted in. Most of us around here have red clay. Clay holds water and leaches nutrients. The general rule of thumb is to feed your lawn at least once a year. In the spring or summer a high nitrogen liquid or granular fertilizer for maximum leaf growth is required. Remember more is not better though. Over fertilizing for your lawn size can lead to fungal problems and weakened growth.
